Parking, food and onsite facilities

Parking

Parking Eye have confirmed that they will not be issuing fines to staff or patients with immediate effect on any of our sites. This is a temporary measure and will reviewed in three months’ time. However, we need to ensure our sites are accessible. Please park responsibly, preferably in your allocated staff car park, however patient car parks are currently underutilised and in these very pressured times staff may wish to access these available spaces.

Unless they are a blue badge holder then staff should not park in disabled bays, block access points or park outside of the Emergency Unit at UHW under any circumstances.

We have also had confirmation from Cardiff Council that key workers will no longer have to pay to park their vehicle on-street or in Council-owned car parks.

The council-owned car parks which are free for key workers are:

Canton car parks (Wellington Street; Leckwith Road; Severn Road; Grey Street and Harvey Street car parks)
Havana Street car park
The Barrage car park
Sophia Gardens car park
North Road car park
Castle Mews car park
Llandaff High Street car park Pontcanna Fields car park
Llandaff Fields car park
Heath Park car park – NHS staff only.

Staff Food Provision

From Monday 20th April we will be providing food to specific areas within UHW and UHL 7 days a week This has been made possible through the Cardiff & Vale Health Charity partnership with Waterloo tea and community partners via the Feed the Heath funding site The food deliveries would not be possible without Sally Gronow and her team from the Integrated Medicine Directorate at UHL and the Health Charity team staff, colleagues and volunteers at UHW.

The kind donations are received from local businesses and the general public fundraising. Please note there is a restriction on numbers of meals that can be provided and therefore we have been working with Clinical Boards to identify priority areas, where staff are unable to leave their settings

To discuss any needs on the UHL site please contact Sally on sally.gronow2@wales.nhs.uk

To discuss any needs on the UHW site please contact fundraising.cav@wales.nhs.uk

If you’d like to help us, we’d love you to make a donation which we can spend to help make a real difference. Please visit: https://www.justgiving.com/campaign/spreadthelove

From Monday 27th April we will be providing food to Rookwood, St David’s and Barry Hospitals 7 days a week. This has been made possible through the Cardiff & Vale Health Charity partnership with Sausage Revolution and funded via ‘Feed the NHS’.

Showering Facilities

Showering facilities
The Estates team has been working hard to coordinate shower facilities for staff at both UHW and UHL. Shower blocks will be placed outside the main buildings for staff to shower before leaving site. We will also be looking to install a standalone shower facility to go on each floor corridor so that staff can shower before leaving the zoned areas. We will update you when we have further timings in relation to this. The temporary showers are for use of staff during these very difficult times.

  • At UHW, the shower block will be installed opposite the entrance of the Children’s Hospital
  • At UHL, the shower block will be installed opposite the Medical Assessment Unit
