Staff Testing

COVID Community Testing Unit (CTU) - Staff Testing Pathway

With effect from 4 April 2020, all referrals for staff testing from Clinical Boards and other Health and Social Care partners to be completed on the form below. Any referrals received not using the form or with incorrect information will be returned to the referrer.

The Community Testing Unit (CTU) will now be using electronic testing requests from the CTU to the laboratories and the completion of all of the required information on the referral form will facilitate a more timely response

Individuals employed by the Health Board should not e-mail their referral to the Communications Hub directly. They should contact their line manager who will forward their information to the nominated Clinical Board Lead or Deputy who will then contact the CTU referral line on their behalf. External staff such as Primary Care contracted services can email the Hub direct with their referrals preferably through their nominated practice or service lead).

For more information on the testing pathway, the names of the Clinical Board referrers and the testing criteria, please see the links below.

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

Staff who are required to care for patients and/or work in an area with suspected or confirmed cases of COVID-19 will be trained in appropriate infection prevention measures – including the correct use of PPE.

Face Masks will require ‘fit testing’ and we are aware that facial hair can impact on ‘fit testing’, therefore we are asking that staff are clean shaven to ensure PPE provides the maximum protection.

Staff who do not wish to remove facial hair, particularly for religious reasons may be offered alternative PPE if available and/or appropriate, i.e. loose fitting respirator. If alternatives are not available/and or appropriate, alternative duties may need to be considered.

Any request for removal of facial hair during this time are made on Health and Safety Grounds.
